Germany
In the Spring of 2014, several UVU visual arts students were selected to take part in a project sponsored by the University’s Department of Art & Visual Communications. The students spent almost two weeks in Germany, starting in Hanau, where the Grimm brothers were born and spent their formative years, and ended in Bremen, a city that influenced the brothers’ fairytale writing. Our travels were based on the cities that influenced the Grimm brothers to write their individual stories.
Our group chose 18 stories, including some common stories such as Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Rumpelstiltskin; a few not so common stories such as the Frog King, the Girl Without Hands, and Singing Lark; and two short stories.
Students were responsible to photograph, sketch, paint, and/or illustrate six stories, which were then compiled into a book. The trip was completely designed around publishing a book that will be given to dignitaries and alumni.
